Masks do reduce spread of flu and some coronaviruses

According to researchers studying the effect of surgical masks on the transmission of corona virus and flu virus, face masks are helping to limit the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic.

In the study, the use of surgical masks by victims significantly reduced the number of flu and corona viruses detected in drops released through breathing and cough.
This mask has also reduced the number of seasonal colds – among the common cold causes – in air-suspended Microdrops, or aerosols. The study did not look at the new coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2.

More research is needed to determine whether masks can specifically inhibit the transmission of SARS-CoV-2, the scientists said.
