Prime Minister lockdowns nation has been extended till May 3, due to which the IPL has been postponed indefinitely. BCCI informed on Wednesday that however the board has not yet revealed IPL schedule. Due to the current situation and international schedule, it is difficult to get past December. The monsoon season lasts from June to September. During this time India has to play series in Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

The T20 World Cup played in Australia in October-November. After this, a mutual series of other teams is decided according to ICC. Between this schedule, the BCCI will have to find the vacant dates for the IPL. Even if this happens, it is not possible to have an IPL before December.

This time the IPL was to be 44 days instead of 50 days. All 8 teams were to play 14–14 matches in 9 cities. Apart from these, there were 2 semi-finals, 1 knockout and a final in Mumbai on 24 May, but the BCCI can now shorten the format to 37 days as in 2009 which was played in South Africa
