Mumbai and other coastal districts in Maharashtra and Gujarat has been put on high alert as Cyclone Nisarga is headed towards the region. The cyclone in likely to make landfall on this afternoon near Alibaug, about 100 km from Mumbai.
The latest update from the weather department said that Mumbai could be hammered with heavy rains and winds up to 110 km per hour. Sea waves as high as 6 feet may hit the coastal areas. PM Modi Tuesday said he took stock of the situation in the wake of cyclonic conditions in western India.
